Synopsis 

When Mia moves into a new house, she realises it isn't quite the home she was expecting. There seems to be rumours and stories about a little girl who was brutally murdered by her mother...in the house Mia is currently staying in. Strange things begin to happen as Mia starts to see the spirit of the dead girl everywhere.

I will be be discussing how the 2014 blockbuster "Divergent" was advertised and how it was marketed through the mainstream.

Looking at poster, it looks animated which makes it look very surreal. The colours used here are not too bright or dull mainly showing the sunset. The poster also includes the two main characters (Four & Tris) followed by the logo which represents the movie (black birds in the top right corner). The poster immediatley gives you the idea of the movie being an action and adventure film, especially the weapons and outfits.

Divergent Trailers

The first trailer starts off with a voiceover (Tris) telling the audience about the society being split into 5 factions and what they have to do. The trailer also gives a brief outline showing what the film is about showing that she is different and a Divergent. There's a lot of action and suspense which makes the audience want to know whats going to happen.

The second trailer also has a voiceover but this time it is Four. This trailer is slightly similar but more focused on the relatonship of Tris & Four battling the dominating faction.

Synopsis of Divergent

Tris lives in a futuristic world in which society is split into five groups. As each person enters adulthood, she must choose a group and commit to it for life. Tris chooses Dauntless (bravery). As she moves on she then discovers that she is a Divergent and will never be able to fit into just one group. Advised that she must hide her status, Tris uncovers a looming war which threatens everyone she loves.

CASTING

In october 22, 2012 it was announced that Shailene Woodley who starred in 'The Fault in our stars' had landed the lead role of Beatrice "Tris" Proir. Lucas Till, Jack Reynor, Jeremy Irvine, Alex Pettyfer, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Ludwig and Luke Bracey were all considered for the role or Tobias "Four" Eaton. On March 15, 2013, it was announced that Theo James had been cast as Four.

MARKETING

The first image of Shailene Woodley as Beatrice "Tris" Prior was revealed by Entertainment Weekley on April 24, 2013.

A few seconds sneak preview footage of the film was shown at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. 

On June 7, Entertainment Weekly released a still of Theo James (Four) showing the Dauntless initiates around their new headquarters. 

The magazine released several more stills on July 19. 

On July 16, USA Today released the first image of Kate Winslet as Jeanine Matthews.

On July 18, 2013 Summit held a sold-out San Diego Comic-Con panel in Hall H. Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Amy Newbold, Miles Teller, Christian Madsen, director Neil Burger, and author Veronica Roth attended the panel and answered fan questions, along with the showing of exclusive film clips.

On August 22, 2013, a sneak peek of the first teaser trailerwas released by MTV. 

The full teaser was released on August 25, 2013 during the pre-show of the MTV Music Video Awards. 

Two official posters featuring Woodley and James as Tris and Four and highlighting their tattoos were released on September 23, 2013. 

Neil Burger released the full official trailer on November 13, 2013. 

On February 4, 2014 Shailene Woodley and Theo James released the final trailer for the film during their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The marketing campaign for the film cost at least $50 million.

RELEASE

On the first day of advance ticket sales the film sold half of it's tickets.

Divergent was released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 5, 2014. Prior to its DVD release, a deleted scene from the film featuring Miles Teller as Peter Hayes and Ben Lamb as Edward was released on July 30, 2014.

BOX OFFICE

Divergent earned $150,947,895 in North America, and $137,800,000 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $288,747,895. Calculating in all expenses, Deadline.com estimated that the film made a profit of $71.87 million.

On its opening weekend, the film attained the No. 1 spot in domestic and worldwide box office rankings by Rendak. The film grossed $4.9 million in late night screenings, on Thursday March 20, 2014. On its opening day, the film grossed $22.8 million in the United States (including the Thursday night gross). Divergent accumulated $54,607,747 from 3,936 theatres at an average of $13,873 per theatre, on its opening weekend in the United States and Canada and grossed $1.7 million internationally from four territories, with a worldwide total of $56,307,747.

WRONG HOUSE SCENE 

SCRIPT

(Bedroom)
(Marty quietly opens the window. He steps inside, but trips and falls onto the bed. The light is turned on and Marty sees a young girl, Loretta, in his bed! Except it's not his bed, this room is completely different.) 
Loretta: Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! 
Marty: Hey, hey, hey, wait, wait a minute, what are you doing in my room? 
Loretta: Mom, Dad, help me! 
Marty: Wait a minute, wait a minute, OK, OK! 
(The door bursts open and Loretta's Dad enters. He's carrying a baseball bat.) 
Dad: Freeze sucker! 
Marty: It's OK, I don't want any trouble! 
Dad: Well, you got trouble now you piece of trash! 
(Loretta's Mom enters and stands by the doorway. With her is their other child, Harold. Dad tries to hit Marty with the bat but breaks some of his daughter's things instead. Loretta is still crying.) 
Dad: What are you doing in here with my daughter? 
Marty: Hey listen, I'm just in the wrong house! 
(Dad aims again - and misses again.) 
Harold: Go get him Dad! 
Dad: You got that right! 
(Dad aims again.) 
Marty: Hey look, I made a mistake! 
Dad: You're damn right you made a mistake! 
(Dad aims again.) 
Marty: Argh! 
(Marty crawls out of the room.) 
Harold/Loretta: Get him! 

(Front Yard) 
(Marty runs out of the house, and the family chases him until they stop at the end of the front yard.) 
Marty: Argh! 
Dad: Right, you keep running sucker, and you tell that realty company that I ain't selling, you hear? We ain't going to be terrorized! 

(Street) 
(Marty runs down a street. Things are very different to how he remembered. In the distance he hears gunshots and screaming. At a corner there are the outlines of two murder victims. Marty runs down another street and three police cars drive past in the background.) 
Marty: This has got to be the wrong year. (He sees a house. He runs over and picks up the newspaper. He reads out the date - October 26th 1985.) 1985? It can't be. 
Strickland: (o.s.) Drop it. 
(Marty looks behind him to see Mr. Strickland wearing a nightshirt with a bullet-proof vest on top. He's got a gun and pointing it at Marty.) 
Strickland: So you're the son of a bitch who's been stealing my papers. 
Marty: Mr. Strickland. Mr. Strickland, it's me sir. It's Marty. 
Strickland: Who? 
Marty: Marty McFly! Marty McFly! Don't you know me? From school, sir. 
Strickland: I've never seen you before in my life but you look to me like a slacker. 
Marty: Yeah, that's right. That's right, I am a slacker. Don't you remember? You gave me detention last week. 
Strickland: Last week? The school burnt down six years ago. Now, you've got exactly three seconds to get off my porch with your nuts in tact. One -
Marty: I just wanna know what the hell is going on here. 
Strickland: Two... 
Marty: Argh!!! 
(A car drives past, its drivers fire gunshots.) 
Gang: Strickland! 
(They hit Strickland's porch, destroying a few flower pots, and Marty ducks for cover. Strickland comes back with a gun and fires it.) 
Strickland: Eat lead, slackers! 
(Marty runs off, terrified.) 
Marty: Argh! 

Film Remakes

 Robocop (1987)              -               Robocop (2014)

The original film was released in 1987 and then was remade in 2014.

The difference between the old and new version is the fact that they are set in different times, so the technology is obviously much more advanced such as the costumes and the camera quality isn't as clear as the new version, also the scenery is much more developed. There is also a whole new storyline, in the old version the main character himself is brutally murdered by a group of criminals where as in the new film the main character is set up and blown up in a car explosion.

Carrie (1976)                 -                Carrie (2013)

Carrie was released in 1976 and was remade in 2013 with improved camera effects and clearer quality. Originally Carrie is about a supernatural teenager named Carrie White who is abused by her mother and faces high school cruelty, Which brings us one of the most memorable and disturbing prom scenes in history. There's not much of a storyline difference since the 2013 redo also has a disturbing prom scene and gets tormented by teens and her deeply religious mother. The difference between both Carries is that the remake has new technology for example better camera quality and new special effects, where as the original version had a lot of zoom in shots and old music, they didn't have these types of effects and technology back in the 1970's. The redo was made better and more advanced.

& the Chocolate Factory  

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a 1971 musical adventure film. It is about a boy named Charlie as he receives a Golden Ticket and visits Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with four other children from around the world. The primary shooting location was West Germany, because it was significantly cheaper than filming in the U.S. and the setting was conducive to Wonka's factory. Visually the film is more hit and miss, doing as much as it can with the special effects available in 1971. After 20 years the film was remade in 2005 and named Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The storyline was the same and there wasn't too many digital effects because the director wanted the younger actors to feel as if they were working in a realistic environment, also forced perspective techniques, oversized props and scale models were used to avoid computer-generated imagery.
